interface background color not changing

I tried to set the interface background color to a variety of colors but it doesn't change it stays bright white can you please help me I want it to be dark grey or black.
I just got the paid app an everything else works great. I am using it on a newer Samsung tablet.
Trying to get this working before Halloween (10/31/22 Monday night).
